Setting up Google Tag Manager may appear to be a difficult process, but it is not! This blog will take you through the fundamentals of setting up GTM, which includes a step-by-step guide for creating your Google Tag Manager account. I’ve made the procedure easy to follow with steps and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I enjoy hearing from people, and I look forward to receiving feedback from you. Let’s get started.
What is Google Tag Manager?
Before we get started, let’s quickly review what GTM or Google Tag Manager is and does. Google Tag Manager is a free tool that allows you to manage your website’s tracking codes (or “tags”) in one place. Instead of having your developer edit your website’s code each time you want to add or update a tag, you can do it all from within GTM. This can save you a lot of time and hassle!
Now let’s Learn How To Setup GTM
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get started setting up GTM. The first step is to create an account. Go to google.com/tagmanager and click “Create Account.”
1 – account name – Business name
2 – Country – I am in Australia and my clients are based here so I selected the same
3 – I usually choose the domain name in the container name
4 – Select the platform you wish to track, I feel most would do this for website setup. I have chosen web, if you have something else please go with that and hit create.
You may see the licence agreement, Please read and Scroll all the way down to select the deal and hit yes. The page may take time to refresh. Be patient
Add the code to your website as instructed and once done, Hit ok and then Submit. The below screenshot can help you understand.
Then publish, Skip. Below screenshots can help you understand this better
That’s it, Your Google Tag Manager Account Is set up and verified.
Now we are good to go add tags (Codes) in the container and verify.
Let me stop here but if you want to learn how to add a Tag to your GTM, I will be uploading it shortly.
I requested feedback, please click on the feedback button below and let me know if the above steps made it easy to understand how to set up an account using Google Tag Manager and verify your business?
